Howard volleyball takes on no. 9 Ohio State in NCAA Tournament

The Howard University women’s volleyball team squares off against Big Ten foe No. 9 Ohio State Friday night in the NCAA Volleyball Championship.

Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio, home of the Buckeyes.

MATCH-UP PREVIEW
Friday’s showdown will be the first meeting between Howard and Ohio State.

HOWARD

Howard (18-12) enters the tournament with an 18-12 overall record, winning 12 of the last 13 contests.

The Bison are led by Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year Bria Woodard, alongside fellow All-MEAC selections Cimone Woodard (MEAC Volleyball Championship Outstanding Performer) and Tamar Wells.

OHIO STATE

Ohio State (25-5) earned the No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament and earned a chance to host the first two rounds after tying for third in the Big Ten with a 15-5 conference record during the regular season.

Five Buckeyes earned Big Ten end-of-season awards, led by All-Big Ten First Team unanimous selection middle blocker Rylee Rader.

LAST TIME OUT
On Nov. 21, the Bison claimed its sixth MEAC championship in seven seasons after a 3-1 victory (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20) over Delaware State at Burr Gymnasium. With the historic victory, Howard is now tied with Florida A&M for the most volleyball titles in MEAC history (13 total).

Cimone Woodard led the Bison with 10 kills, eight digs and six total blocks (three solo). For her efforts, the Texas native was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The winner of Friday’s match will get the North Carolina-Tennessee winner in the second round on Saturday.
